Description

Alchemy is one of the master branches of western esotericism. This Collection, which presents alchemical as well as historical and philosophical studies, opens with an essay by André Savoret (What is Alchemy?), followed by an unpublished document from 1590 (the Discourse of an unknown writer on the philosopher’s stone) with commentary by Bernard Husson and also the seventeen engravings by Barchusen (1718), decrypted here by Alexandre Foriani. Reflection on 16th and 17th Century texts and on the approach to alchemy according to Carl Gustav Jung, is presented by Claude-Gilbert Dubois, this is followed by that of Antoine Faivre who discusses the nature of figurative structures. A pearl of Christian alchemy, Eckartshausen’s Catechism of Higher Chemistry (written in around 1798), brings the collection to a close. Lastly, a substantial bibliography of French language books and articles for the period 1900-1998, compiled by Richard Caron, is provided to offer essential assistance to researchers and enthusiasts alike.
