Description

The finest translation ever produced in France is the one dating back to the era of Louis XIV which we owe to Lemaître de Sacy, who oversaw the project. Numerous prestigious personalities of Port Royal, such as Pascal, Nicole and Arnauld contributed to the work. The translation which carries his name remained a point of reference for over two centuries. As well as a monument to faith, it is also a monument to the French language, comparable to the Bible of Luther in Germany or that of King James in England.
