Description

Translated into French for the first time, this booklet is highly regarded among the historic documents regarding the origin of the Order of the Rose Cross. In fact, its appearance in 1617 followed the Fama Fraternitatis and the Confessio Rosae Crucis. This is therefore a founding text and just as important as those which the Order became known for in the 17th Century. The author, writing in German, is unknown. He presents himself as a sincere seeker, wishing to be accepted into the Order, a “Good and useful Fraternity”. Drawing on the Holy Scriptures, he explains his approach and comes to the defence of the Order and its members. He also discusses the secrets of the Brothers, particularly regarding their medicine and the philosopher’s stone. This Recepta also offered additional information on the profession of faith of members of the Rose Cross. Embodying a deeply profound mysticism, it calls for reflection on the very laudable aims of the Fraternity, but also on the meaning of life and truth. It leads to interesting reflection likely to arouse the interest of a sincere reader. It was therefore important to make it accessible to all of those who, having an interest in the philosophy of the Rose Cross, wished to unveil its Mysteries and deepen their understanding. This is now something which has been achieved with this translation.
