Rabbi Nahman de Braslav is among the leading figures in Hasidism, a mystic Jewish movement born in the 18th Century, which offers joy as the most direct means of communion with God. Rabbi Nahman was particularly fond of expressing himself through tales that brought together popular legends which were accessible even to young children. But beneath their apparent simplicity, these tales conveyed the most profound truths of the Kabbalah and Hasidism so that they might be within everyone’s reach. This work presents six tales by Rabbi Nahman. Each is followed by a commentary by Adin Steinsaltz, guiding us towards discovery of their true meaning. These tales enable us to appreciate the spiritual teachings of Rabbi Nahman, as well as the potency and depths of his thinking. Even today, they speak to our hearts and invite us to embrace the worldly presence of the divine.
