Every night Simon has the same dream, in which an enigmatic lady delivers him a key: he is the reincarnation of Milarepa, the famed 11th Century Tibetan hermit who harboured a fierce hatred towards his nephew. To break the cycle of rebirth, Simon must recount the story of the two mean, identifying with them to the extent that their identities become blended with his. But where does the dream begin and reality end? In this monologue which is also a tale told in the Tibetan spirit, Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt pursues a philosophical line of questioning: does reality exist outside we hold of it?
