“There is a sacred science, and for millennia, countless curious minds have tried in vain to penetrate its “secrets”. It would be akin to attempting to dig a hole in the sea with a pick. Esotericism is the world’s spiritual aspect, inaccessible to cerebral intelligence. Esotericism is a question of the disciple’s consciousness, and not a doctrine.” In this book René Adolphe Schwaller de Lubicz (1887-1961) examines numerous questions on esotericism. For him, sacred science is not discovered in books but rather within oneself, by cultivating emotional intelligence. If cerebral intelligence, which depends on our senses, knows no more than duality and reasons through comparison, emotional intelligence reasons through sympathy, through affinity. The scholar seeks to remove duality, he “perceives” the object and “knows” life. It is through emotional intelligence that man can surpass his animal condition and approach the divine, and this is therefore what esotericism addresses. Hieroglyphic writing, Schwaller de Lubicz reveals, can only directly transcribe what emotional intelligence has grasped of the invisible.
