By examining his life and thinking, this book shows us how Socrates led his audience to seek the truth, to cultivate all that is beautiful, just, good and true to connect with one's deep inner self. It uses, in particular, myths as illustrations of his philosophical theories. Although he left no written records, his thinking has been passed down over the centuries thanks to Plato.

The book also provides details of idealist movements inspired by him, in contrast to materialism. According to the author, it is through philosophers' cafés that the art of Socratic dialogue is perpetuated today.
