Generally recognised as Helena Blavatsky's major work, the book highlights the principles of the "secret doctrine" of Antiquity, and remains the most complete source of theosophy today. Based on the Stanzas of Dzyan, the first four volumes, published in 1888, retrace the evolution of the universe and humanity from the awakening of the cosmic intelligence and the evolution of a cosmos. Helena P. Blavatsky does not present the contents of the Secret Doctrine as a revelation: the truths she outlines were dispersed through thousands of volumes incorporating the scriptures of the great Asiatic religions and the beginnings of European religions, concealed by the glyphs and symbols. Her work was to assemble them into a coherent and harmonious whole.
