Meister Eckhart, philosopher and mystic, is considered today to be one of the great figures of Christianity. As well as his scholarly Latin treatises, he delivered numerous German sermons. He defended himself from the charge of heresy, explaining that "if he makes frequent use of an unusual language, it is because he wants to inspire in his listeners the supreme desire to do right". His sermons, with a theological abstraction which feeds an intimate sense of the divine, are collected in this book.
