Apostle of Rightousness and Right Thinking, the first two attributes of this single God which he calls Ahura Mazda, Zoroaster aims to lead men and women towards a happy life and denounces the corruption of the political and religious elite, the false gods and bloody sacrifices. The greatest Greek philosophers aligned themselves with him, while Judaism and Christianity used him as a source of inspiration for the fundamental notions of heaven, hell and the kingdom of God. Khosro Khazai (Pardis), himself one of the great specialists of these texts and Zoroastrianism, here provides us with a superb translation of these hymns. He also explains their history to us, the philosophy derived from them and their influence through the centuries. The truly poetic message of these hymns reveals itself as startlingly modern.
